Message from Wendy Sheard

Hello

I hope everyone at Sion is keeping safe and well.

Not sure how people will remember the Sheards at Sion now, so much time has past since my parents, Jean and Don died.

I wanted to share these couple of poems which I’ve written about them, they are not very good but they may bring a smile to the faces of those who do remember them.

My Mother’s smile is special:

My Mother’s smile is special,

For friends and strangers alike,

Friendly, warm and open,

The apple of our eyes.

My Mother’s smile is special,

Patient, true and kind,

A grin, a glance, a giggle,

“What a wonderful surprise”!

My Mother’s smile is special,

Very special to me,

Her shoulder, her arm, her heart,

My rock, missed constantly.

My Mother’s smile is special,

Was patient, true and wise,

Wonder what she would think of me,

Her Wendy, with an MBE!

Dad:

Dad, Daddy, Pa and Pop,

Different words for just one chap.

The place to go when things were tough,

He’d wrap you up in one big hug.

Rugby, not soccer, wrong shaped ball,

Silly old songs, he knew them all.

He’d mend, he’d make with wood, nails and glue,

With one kind look to say ‘I love you’.

He taught us well, he taught us all,

To always buy ginger biscuits from Rawtenstall!

Sending all good wishes to you all.

Best wishes

Wendy
