SELF DOUBT AND THE NEED FOR ENCOURAGEMENT

O Lord, just reading the story of Elijah and his escaping from Queen Jezebel made me think that even someone like Elijah and his powerful prayers had self doubt and needed encouragement. God needed to speak to him, but he wasn't listening, till after all the noise, and then the still voice came. I guess this prompted this hymn.

Dear Lord and Father of mankind, forgive our foolish ways, re clothe us in our rightful mind, in purer lives Thy service find, in deeper reverence praise.
In simple trust like those who heard beside the Syrian sea, the gracious calling of the Lord. Let us, like them, without a word, rise up and follow Thee.
O Sabbath rest by Galilee, o calm of hills above. Where Jesus knelt to share with Thee the silence of eternity, interpreted by love.
With that deep hush subduing all our words and works that's drown the tender whisper of Thy call, as noiseless let Thy blessing fall, as fell the 'manna' down.
Drop Thy still dews of quietness till all our strivings cease, take from our souls the strain and stress, and let our ordered lives confess the beauty of Thy peace.
Breath through the heat of out desires Thy coolness and Thy balm, let sense be dumb, let flesh retire, speak through the earthquake, wind and fire, O still small voice of calm..

O Lord, I know these words off by heart, but never understood them as I do now. Just why you've given me this tonight I do not know. Perhaps to share with and encourage others.
Thinking about these words reminds me that we can be so busy, even doing your work, that we don't hear you , and you have to go to great lengths to get our attention, and bring us back to reality.
So often you need to remind us that we can trust You, You have everything in hand. We need those times of quietness in Your presence, even Jesus needed that, so how much more do we!
Lord, draw us into Your presence, to sit at your feet, and allow your love to surround us and restore us.
Help us to listen for Your still small voice of calm, even in the midst of our anxieties, our cares, our need to succeed. Help us to see our strain and stress, to bring it before You instead  of letting it devour us.
Lord, help us to trust Your provision for us, knowing that whatever we need, the 'manna' will fall, fresh each day.
O God, thank you that You are so gracious to us in our weaknesses, our discouragements,  our self doubts. Build us up to more than we could ever  imagine to be. A humble, thankful and trusting people. Amen

Irene
